Lines which divide us.

I wish I had the eloquence to articulate my conflicting feelings when I look at this image. Which side of the line do you stand? Can we ever erase the lines which divide us and should we? Laws have been created to both protect people and often compensate political interests. What do you believe?
I’m curious to read your thoughts.
I photographed this image during the first public immigration sweep by Sheriff Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriffs department in 2008. The sweeps have been controversial with regard to the resources used to selectively enforce immigration laws. The sweeps have taken truly dangerous criminals off the street. I applaud! They’ve also removed peaceful, hard working non-documented immigrants who have been positive contributors to American society. These non-documented immigrants are branded criminals by our laws. What do you believe?

I believe they broke the law and are therefore criminals and deserve the PINK cuffs
I too am conflicted. Since my daughter was eight someone has been using her social security number. What will happen when she goes to work? She’s now 17. Where do we start to get that cleared up when the law prohibits us from asking for “personal” information even when we have proof that it belongs to her.
On the other hand, I once worked with a kid (24) who admitted to me he was working under a “fictitious” SSN. He was brought to the states when he was 12 To live with family friends, to finish his education, go to college (paid cash) and work. He told me he didn’t know what he would do if he was deported, his home was here. He was one of my hardest working, most loyal employees I’ve ever had. He was intelligent, learned fast and NEVER complained.
Where is the line drawn? Where should it be?
